Coercive Control & Trauma-Informed Awareness Presentation
Are we mistaking coercive control for mental illness?
Join us for an eye-opening mini workshop as part of #TheHiddenHarmProject — a campaign dedicated to exposing how coercive control is too often misdiagnosed as psychiatric conditions.
This presentation will shine a light on the urgent need for GPs, Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) teams, and crisis services to screen for coercive control before diagnosing, labelling, sectioning, or medicating individuals.
When professionals miss the signs of abuse, they unintentionally:
Return victims to dangerous environments
Suppress awareness of the real cause of their trauma
Contribute to victim-blaming by framing survival responses as "mental illness"
What to Expect:
Clear explanation of coercive control and its hidden impact on mental health
Real survivor stories and insights
Practical guidance on trauma-informed approaches
An awareness stall featuring powerful anonymous survivor testimonies
This is a mini workshop designed to spark vital conversations and drive meaningful change in how healthcare systems respond to domestic abuse.
Campaigning for System Change
We believe no one should be labelled and medicated while the abuse remains hidden. Together, we are pushing for proper assessment, safe signposting to domestic abuse and holistic services, and real protection for victims.
