Unique and relaxed drawing session, where you'll create your own custom sketchbook, and make drawings from a classic black and white film.

Led by Oliver Hoffmeister from Overlay Press, this session will begin with everyone making their own custom sketchbook using materials provided.

Once everyone's sketchbook is made we will play a classic black and white film, stopping the film when someone raises their hand, at which point the group will draw the frames from the film in quick-turnaround drawings.

All abilities welcome, from absolute beginner to full time pro, all are welcome.

🎨 Materials

All sketchbook materials, and drawing materials will be provided. If you would like to bring your own materials along as well, then you are more than welcome to.

📖 About Overlay Press

This session will be led by Oliver Hoffmeister. Oliver is a practicing artist who studied at Newcastle University and The Royal Drawing School. He has exhibited widely internationally, undertaken residencies at The Prado Museum, Madrid and has been awared The Richard Ford Award.

Overlay Press is a DIY small press and creative print studio based in Newcastle upon Tyne, established in 2021. They specialise in bespoke printing, bookmarking and design-led problem solving, collaborating closely with artists, designers and community groups to bring bold thoughtful ideas to life in print. Overlay Press is run by Erika Tyson-Green, Oliver Hoffmeister and George Stewart.

♿ Access information

Slugtown is a ground floor unit with step-free access, and wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately we do not have an accessible toilet.

🅿️ Parking

There is free parking available at Stoddart House car park round the back of the gallery. The parking is free after 6pm.
