About this Event

Cullercoats Bay includes the most northerly exposure of Permian-age strata along the Northumberland coast. Yellow Sands and Raisby Formation Magnesian Limestone are exposed. They are only there due to the activity of the Finety-Fathom Fault. South of the fault are typical coal measures sequences of shale, sandstone, seatearth and coal. North of Cullercoats Bay is Browns Bay, where Carboniferous channel sandstones are found, particularly well displayed above the bathing pool at Table Rock.

Accessibility

Walking routes are partly on sandy beach and rocky foreshore, but some will be on the coastal path.
