About This Event

"Monks, Nuns, and Ladies in Grey: Meet the Spectres that Haunt Newcastle" will take place on 15 October 2026 at Bewick Hall, Level 2 of the Newcastle City Library. Led by Icy Sedgwick, this event invites participants to explore the ghostly tales and eerie history of Newcastle upon Tyne, a city steeped in over 2000 years of intriguing stories. The event is free to attend.

Get into the mood for Halloween with Icy Sedgwick, discover the Ghosts of Newcastle!

Newcastle upon Tyne enjoys 2000 years of history. With such a long, eventful, and often dark past stretching behind it, it's hardly surprising that the city is home to a ghost or two (or ten, or fifty...) These ghosts walk the streets you pass through every day, and they lurk in buildings that you know well. Some of them may even join you for a pint - whether you're aware of them or not. Halloween fast approaches, which is the ideal time to befriend them as we head indoors in our rush to leave the autumn outside. So if you'd like to get to know the spectres of the Central Arcade, the Lit & Phil, the Theatre Royal, the Quayside, and other famous sites around this ancient city of ours, then this talk is for you...
