About This Event

The Nest will host a wildlife gardening session at Cherryburn in Newcastle on 22 August 2026. The event runs at 10:00 as part of a monthly programme from July to October. Each session focuses on birding activities at the venue.

Join us for a special programme of monthly birding events from July to October, held on selected Saturdays at Cherryburn. Each session begins with an engaging workshop, talk, or demonstration, followed by two hours of exclusive access to the garden while it is closed to the public.

Session number two is How to Garden for Wildlife

Discover how to make your garden more welcoming for birds, insects and other wildlife in this engaging talk with professional horticulturist John Grundy.

Learn practical tips from an experienced, wildlife-focused gardener, and bring along your questions for friendly, expert advice. You’ll also have the chance to chat with Cherryburn’s gardener, Jordan, about how we care for our own nature-friendly garden.

After the talk, enjoy exclusive access to the garden. Relax in a deckchair, listen to birdsong, sketch using our art materials, or simply unwind with a picnic and connect with fellow nature lovers.

Timings:

• 10am – Arrival

• 10.30am – Talk begins

• 11.30am – Talk ends

• 11.30am–2pm – Enjoy the garden at your leisure

• August: “How to Garden for Wildlife and Birds” with John Grundy (Wilderness Tamed)

• September: Bird sketching session with local artist Johnnie Foker

• October: “The Shorebirds of Long Nanny” with Northumberland Coast Ranger James Porteus
