The Border Readers will present Words of Love at Cullercoats Watch House in Newcastle on 30 October 2026. Professional actors will read short stories by various writers focusing on the theme of love. Tickets for the event are priced at £11.55.

The Row by Penelope Lively. A brilliant piece of comic writing on the ups and downs of married life from the much loved Booker prize winning author.

Lasts under 2 hours including interval.

Taking Flight by Helen Hutchinson. The poignant story of would be lovers in Victorian Perthshire and the role of a rural library in shaping their destinies. New writing that’s our contribution to the National ‘Year of Reading’ initiative.

Plastic Heart by Jeremy Page. Jamie dumps Helen so Helen dumps the clothes he bought her…or tries to. A painfully funny take on the perils of starting over.

To Belong To by Kerry Andrew. Shortlisted for the 2018 BBC national short story award. A heart-warming tale of loss, redemption and healing through the power of nature and community on a remote Scottish island.
