Are you a parent / unpaid carer of a Disabled child or young person? Looking for a calm, welcoming space to take a moment for yourself?

The Disabled Children’s Team warmly invite you to a monthly session at Newport’s Central Library. Come in, relax and get comfortable with light refreshments in a calm and comfortable space. Each session will focus on wellbeing, relaxation and creativity - offering you a dedicated space where you come first.

Monday 14th September | 10:30–12:30 | Central Library

Join us for a calm, creative morning as part of Parent Carer Pause, a monthly session designed specifically for parents / unpaid carers of Disabled children and young people.

This session focuses on Painting and Repairing Pottery – ‘Kintsugi’, offering you time to explore creativity at your own pace. There’s no expectation to be “artistic” materials, inspiration, and gentle guidance will be available, and you’re free to work in whatever way feels comfortable for you.

What to expect:

• Light refreshments

• A relaxed, creative activity

• Space to chat with others or work quietly

• A supportive, low-pressure atmosphere

Monday 12th October | 10:30–12:30 | Central Library

Join us for a creative morning as part of Parent Carer Pause, a monthly session designed specifically for parents / unpaid carers of Disabled children and young people.

This session focuses on Afro Dance Fitness, bringing together light dance, simple drumming, and feel-good Afrobeats rhythms to get everyone moving and having fun. The session is designed to be inclusive and enjoyable, with no previous dance or fitness experience required.

Friendly guidance will be available throughout, and you're encouraged to join in at your own pace, taking part in whatever way feels most comfortable for you. The focus is on energy, connection, and enjoying the music in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

Monday 9th November | 10:30–12:30 | Central Library

Join us for a calm, creative morning as part of Parent Carer Pause, a monthly session designed specifically for parents / unpaid carers of Disabled children and young people.

This session focuses on Photography for Seasonal Cards, giving you the opportunity to capture images inspired by the changing seasons and create personalised designs for greetings cards. No previous photography experience is needed – the emphasis is on creativity, enjoyment, and exploring what catches your eye.

Guidance and inspiration will be available throughout, and you're free to take photographs and develop ideas at a pace that feels comfortable for you. The session offers a relaxed and supportive space to express yourself while creating something meaningful to share with others.

What to expect:

· A relaxed, creative activity – all materials (including cameras are provided)

· Inspiration from books and printed materials

· Space to chat with others or work quietly

· A supportive, low-pressure atmosphere

Monday 14th December | 10:30–12:30 | Central Library

Join us for a calm, creative morning as part of Parent Carer Pause, a monthly session designed specifically for parents / unpaid carers of Disabled children and young people.

This session focuses on Festive Creative Crafts, offering a relaxed opportunity to get creative and make seasonal decorations, personalised baubles, greetings cards, and festive keepsakes. You may also have the chance to create cards using photographs taken during previous sessions, adding a unique and personal touch to your designs.

There’s no expectation to be artistic or crafty – a range of materials, ideas, and gentle guidance will be available to support you. You’re free to explore different crafts, try new techniques, and work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

The session is all about enjoying the creative process, connecting with others, and embracing the festive spirit in a welcoming and supportive environment.

What to expect:

· A relaxed, creative activity

· Inspiration from books and printed materials

· Space to chat with others or work quietly

· A supportive, low-pressure atmosphere

There is no pressure to participate, speak, or share personal experiences during any of the sessions. These sessions offer a supportive pause in your week, shaped with and by parent carers, a space to arrive as you are, take a breath, and spend time in good company.
