About This Event

Discover the inspiring story behind Norfolk’s first breeding ospreys in 250 years and their journey back to England. In 2025, ospreys bred in Norfolk for the first time in over 250 years - at NWT Ranworth Broad. It's a significant and exciting milestone in bringing this iconic bird back to England, and one with roots that stretch back over a decade. Join amateur naturalist Simon Curtin, a birdwatcher of over 50 years, for the inspiring personal story behind that success. In 2014, Simon led a project in the Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire, to reintroduce ospreys as a breeding species to the East Midlands - work that would go on to play a direct role in the Norfolk nest's success. Illustrated with Simon's own photographs and video, this talk covers osprey behaviour, nesting, migration and feeding, alongside a "how to" look at the Belvoir project itself, before bringing the story right up to date with the landmark Norfolk nest. This event is suitable for adults. This talk will be taking place in 'The Crypt' at St Andrews Hall as part of the Wild by Design event . Please arrive 15 minutes before the talk begins and speak to someone at the entrance.
