Hosted by Rebecca Mayhew, join two award-winning authors whose latest books offer honest, thoughtful and sometimes surprising accounts of farming, land management and rural life. This is neither a rose-tinted view of the countryside nor a pugnacious attack on rural life. Instead, Richard Negus, author of Words From The Hedge, and Sarah Juggins, author of Home Is Where The Herd Is, explore what it really means to work and live within the farming community in 21st-century East Anglia.

Rebecca Mayhew brings her own experience of farming at Old Hall Farm in Norfolk, where she and her family have transformed an intensive farming business into a diverse, pasture based enterprise. A farmer and businesswoman Rebecca has spent years challenging assumptions about how farming should be done while grappling with the very real pressures of running a viable rural business.

Richard Negus, author of Words From The Hedge, brings a sharp eye and a journalist’s curiosity to the realities of rural Britain. His work explores the people, places and pressures that sit beyond the familiar picture of the countryside, offering an honest perspective on the changing relationship between farming, land and the wider rural community.

Sarah Juggins, author of Home Is Where The Herd Is, tells the very personal story of how two little Dexter cattle grew into a herd of more than 30 Wagyu – and how, along the way, farming became much more than simply keeping cattle. Her book combines the trials and triumphs of becoming a farmer with stories of birth, loss, difficult decisions, family and the emotional pull of the land. Come along for an evening of stories, insight and conversation about the countryside we know – and the countryside that is changing around us.
