WHEN: 12-6PM Archival Display | 4-5PM Panel Discussion / In Conversation.
WHERE: Primary, Gallery One the Reading Room
Archival material from the Jackie Creft Memorial Collection, the key archive of written, audio, and photographic records from the Grenada Revolution, will be presented for display and activation, alongside Santiago Mostyn’s work with radio and audio archives from the Black Power era in the Caribbean.
A panel discussion between film curator Jonathan Ali, historical geographer Dr. Jacob Fairless Nicholson, archivist and director of BCA Harlynn Homan, and artist Santiago Mostyn will attempt to reckon with the Revolutionary legacies of Grenada via their unique frames of reference, centring Grenada in the imagination: the small island’s collective processes, educational models, and artistic growth under the first revolutionary government in the English-speaking Caribbean.
Santiago Mostyn (b. Turtle Island) is an artist working with film, installation and performance. His practice reflects on cultural exchange and interconnectedness across African diasporic communities. Recent solo exhibitions include Skånes Konstförening, Malmö; Mariakirken, Copenhagen; and Gerðarsafn Museum, Iceland. Recent group exhibitions include Kochi-Muziris Biennale; Stellenbosch Triennale; the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare; Sequences XII, Reykjavik, and Blindspot Gallery, Hong Kong (all 2025). He was a resident at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2022, and held the 2024–25 David and Roberta Logie Fellowship at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute.
Jonathan Ali is an independent film curator, writer and researcher. His curated programmes of Caribbean cinema have been presented at Cinemateca de Bogotá in Colombia, DocLisboa documentary film festival in Portugal, FicValdivia film festival in Chile, Sinema Transtopia in Berlin and the Institute of Contemporary Arts and British Film Institute in London, and elsewhere. Much of his recent work has been around activist and militant Caribbean documentary cinema from the 1970s and 1980s. This work has resulted, among other things, in the curated programme You Don’t Get Freedom, You Take Freedom: Caribbean Activist Cinema which has been presented at several film festivals, and This Film May Be Used by Anyone: Recovering Caribbean Liberation Cinema, a presentation at the Eye Filmmuseum film programmers conference in Amsterdam.
