Bringing your experience into the UK job market

You might have years of experience, qualifications or skills, but still find UK recruitment unfamiliar. Or perhaps you have taken a break from work and are unsure where to begin again.

This practical, five-hour Steps Towards Work masterclass is an opportunity to understand how UK employers recruit, look again at what you can offer, and explore realistic ways forward. The session includes discussion, exercises and time to reflect; it is not just a presentation about writing a CV.

What we will explore

How UK recruitment and workplace expectations may differ from your previous experience.

What employers look for and how to present your skills and experience confidently.

Where and how to find suitable opportunities, including job-search channels and networking.

Everyday workplace communication, including self-introductions, small talk and professional behaviour.

Practical exercises, questions and ideas for your next steps.

Who might benefit?

Anyone eligible for the programme who is looking for work, returning to work, or trying to make better use of their existing experience and qualifications in the UK. You do not need to have decided on a particular job or career direction before attending.

About Steps Towards Work

This is the first core workshop in Transform Training's redesigned Steps Towards Work programme. We also offer personalised, ongoing one-to-one employability support, including CV and application feedback, job-search reviews and interview preparation when needed.

The five core workshops total 12 guided learning hours. They can be completed in different orders over time.

Getting Here – Travel and Parking

By Bus: Nottingham City Transport services 24, 25, 26 and 27 stop at Handel Street on Carlton Road, just a short walk from the venue.

By Car: On-street parking is available in the surrounding streets near Handel Street. Please check local parking restrictions and allow time to find a suitable space.

The session is intended for adults aged 25+ who live in Nottingham City;

Transform Training will confirm eligibility.

Places are free for eligible participants, subject to availability.

Booking a workshop does not itself complete programme enrolment.
