The Migrant Table Festive Biscuit Workshop is scheduled for 20 November 2026 at the Nottingham Refugee Forum. Attendees will learn about three traditional biscuits, sharing recipes and stories from individuals seeking safety. This workshop aims to connect cultural narratives through baking.
Discover the stories behind three traditional biscuits, taught by people seeking safety who share the recipes and memories behind them.
Our last Migrant Table workshop was such a success, and we received so much lovely feedback from people asking us to run another one. So, we've answered your calls and are back with another workshop on Friday 20th November!
This time, we'll be exploring the stories behind three traditional sweet treats. You'll learn where the ingredients come from, when and why these biscuits are traditionally made, and hear real memories and experiences from refugees sharing the food that reminds them of home.
On the menu:
Roasted Sesame Biscuits – Sudan
Maamoul – Kurdistan
Baklava – Middle East
We'll make all three together, learning the recipes, techniques and stories behind each one along the way. Come along, get baking and leave with a little more knowledge of the people, places and traditions behind the food we eat!
We can't wait to see you.
Ticket prices and donations
The ingredients for each workshop place cost us £10, so we suggest a donation of £20 per person to help cover costs and support our work.
If you're in a position to give a little more, you can also donate £40 to cover your place and pay for someone seeking safety to attend who might otherwise be unable to afford a ticket. This helps us make sure everyone has the opportunity to take part.
