About This Event

Safe Space Notts is holding an in-person training session on 25 August 2026 at 13:00 in the Rescue Rooms, Nottingham. The free workshop focuses on vulnerability awareness and active bystander skills for local night-time and daytime economies.

The Safe Space Notts Vulnerability & Active Bystander Training is aimed at Nottingham’s Day and Night-time Economy.

Safe Space Notts Training

Safe Space Notts is a city-wide safety initiative run by It's in Nottingham in partnership with the Consent Coalition and funded by the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Partnership. These free, in-person training sessions are part of Nottingham's joined-up approach to making the city safer for everyone.

The sessions are open to anyone working or volunteering in Nottingham's day and night-time economy, including hospitality, retail, cultural venues, transport and community spaces. Attendance is one of the key requirements for a business to become an accredited Safe Space Notts venue, with all accredited venues listed on the interactive map at safespacenotts.com.

Delivered by Equation and It's in Nottingham, each session is approximately two hours long.

What the session covers

By the end of the training, attendees will have a greater understanding of:

Recognising vulnerability, violence, harassment and abuse in venues and public spaces

Consent and sexual harassment, including the legal framework

Active bystander intervention and how to challenge inappropriate behaviour safely

Myths and stereotypes that contribute to gender-based violence

How to create and designate a safe space within your venue

How to support victims and survivors in a non-judgmental way

The Safe Space Notts initiative, the pledge and what accreditation involves

A note on content

This session covers sensitive subjects including sexual violence, abuse and harassment. Some participants may find aspects of the content difficult or triggering. Please take care of your own wellbeing throughout, and feel free to step out at any time if you need to. If you need support before, during or after the session please speak to the facilitators and we will do our best to help.

This training is recommended for participants aged 18 and over.

The Safe Space Notts training is funded by the Late Night Levy via the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Partnership.
