Tue, 18 Aug 2026
About This Event
The event will explore using yoga tools, with a focus on chanting, to safely bring trauma into awareness. The session aims for gentle reintegration and connection from trauma.
We will explore how we can use yoga tools, with a focus on chanting, to create conditions for allowing trauma to come into awareness safely, for gradually releasing it and integrating back into a unified and authentic whole. There will be theory on shock trauma and developmental trauma, the significance of the Vagus Nerve in trauma response, and the approach to healing both types of trauma, which will be complemented by practice. The well-known Āyurdhehi chant can be interpreted to gently describe our life journey of healing and the route it takes for us to arrive at the fundamental integration of all aspects of our being. We will explore the elements of body, prāna, apāna, vyāna, caksur, srotram, manas, vācam and ātman as outlined in the chant in the light of our modern-day understanding of trauma: what happens in trauma, how to address it in a therapeutic setting, the role of our eyes and our sense of hearing in creating connection and safety. About the Tutor Since 2008, Sabine has taught yoga therapeutically and in group settings. Influenced by TKV Desikachar and Peter Hersnack, she integrates the teachings of the Yoga Sutra into her classes, encouraging compassionate self-observation in āsana and breath work. She has a particular awareness of yoga’s positive impact on mental health and has works extensively to support her students in creating stability, a positive frame of mind and resilience in the face of traumatic events.Sabine also conducts CPD events on mental health for teachers and co-leads a BWY Module on Yoga Therapy.
