On 4 October 2026, Makespace Oxfordshire hosts An Introduction to Green Woodworking, a hands-on workshop day located on the banks of the Oxford canal. Join Oxford-based furniture makers Andrew Joye and Ellis Stacey for a day of traditional hand-tool woodworking.
Suitable for all, from complete beginners to confident improvers, this fun and relaxing course will introduce you to the core tools, skills and techniques of working with wood in its raw unseasoned form ("green" straight from the log).
The course will take place outside amongst nature (unless the weather is biblical and then we will move inside) and will involve no loud or dangerous machinery. Working as part of a small group, you will use a shavehorses, draw knives, spokeshaves and more to handmake a mortise and tenon jointed stool to take home and show off to your envious family and friends (it also makes a great plant stand or side table).
All tools and materials are provided.
The course is taking place on Sunday 04 October, at Makespace Oxfordshire (1 Aristotle Lane, OX2 6TP)
All participants must be 18+
Only 6 places available
Please bring sturdy footwear, clothes that can get messy and a drink/lunch/biscuits.
