Five evening sessions of meditative hand stitching to make the most beautiful, kimono-inspired, short robe.
COURSE DATES:
NOVEMBER 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th
7pm - 9pm
Caper Bookshop, 74-77 Magdalen Road, Oxford, OX4.
A course that focuses on making something beautiful - not just a garment but a sewing circle, a community.
Five evening sessions of meditative hand stitching to make the most beautiful, kimono-inspired, short robe. This is a very calming course with not a machine in sight. Artist and professional costumier Tabitha Grove will take those of ALL abilities through a few simple but very effective stitches and techniques in a calm friendly atmosphere. You’ll get to put your new-found skills into practice and finish with a classic garment made from beautiful, heavy-weight linen that you will be so proud to wrap yourself up in.
It's a series of five 2 hour sessions. In these sessions we cut and sew our own waste-free robes. The linen is a neutral tone too, so you can dye it any colour if you so wish. The first sessions will look at fabric cutting before then shifting our focus to assembly and finishing. We don't use a single machine stitch. We only use simple stitches and apply them thoughtfully, all by hand. The idea is that you're focussing on doing something simple, very well. Each stitch is important. It's a very relaxed course and it's as much about taking time out of hectic life, getting to know the folk around you and slowing time as it is about learning how to make something beautiful that you can treasure forever.
All materials included and tools provided.
