Screening of Sing Sing followed by a conversation with an Ambassador from The Prison Phoenix Trust

Sing Sing is a moving and uplifting drama inspired by the true story of Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), a programme at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in New York that uses theatre to support people in prison.

The film stars Colman Domingo as Divine G, a man in prison who finds purpose, friendship and a sense of community through taking part in a theatre group. When a new member joins the group, the men come together to create and perform an original comedy, discovering new ways to express themselves and connect with one another along the way.

At its heart, Sing Sing explores the transformative power of creativity, trust and human connection, and what can happen when people are given the opportunity to see themselves and one another beyond the labels of imprisonment.

The Prison Phoenix Trust shares a similar belief in the importance of supporting people in prison on their journey towards positive change. Through yoga, meditation and spiritual mentoring, The PPT works with people in prisons across the UK, helping them to develop greater self-awareness, find inner peace and build a stronger sense of connection with themselves and others.

Following the screening, we will be joined by an Ambassador from The Prison Phoenix Trust for a conversation about some of the themes raised by the film, including imprisonment, rehabilitation, identity, yoga and the role of human connection in creating the possibility for change. They will also share their own lived experience and perspective.

Hosted at Tap Social's Taproom. Tap Social are a social enterprise brewery and bakery that work with people in prison and ex-offenders to provide training and meaningful employment to help people turn their lives around.

Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking evening of film, lived experience and conversation, exploring imprisonment, rehabilitation and the possibility of change.
