About This Event

Step-by-Step Thermal Imaging Training is set for 26 November 2026 at the Old Fire Station in Oxford. Organised by the Low Carbon Hub and CAG Network, this free training is designed for community groups.

Low Carbon Hub and CAG Network invites you to Step-by-Step Thermal Imaging training, by and for community groups.

Gareth Lewis, Retrofit Coordinator for Cosy Homes Oxfordshire and founder member of Sustainable Didcot will lead the workshop, combining knowledge and a practical approach in an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.

Our experienced community groups will be on hand to provide advice and share tips on running a thermal imaging campaign.

We will go through each step of setting up and calibrating the cameras before setting off together to take our own thermal images of nearby homes and buildings. Hot drinks and refreshment will be provided!

This practical session aims to make sure we all feel comfortable using the thermal cameras to help householders identify areas of heat loss in their homes and buildings.

A thermal imaging project is a fantastic way of engaging householders in home energy efficiency. From new builds to listed buildings, residents can see visual evidence of poorly insulated areas that let in cold air and draughts. This can often be the catalyst to motivate residents to take the first steps towards making their homes warmer and lowering their heating bills.

Thermal imaging cameras can highlight where there might be insufficient loft insulation and uneven cavity wall insulation, gaps in floorboards, draughts around windows and badly fitted loft hatches, all allowing heat to escape, which means we increase the amount of fuel we use to try to keep our homes warm.

Low Carbon Hub has three thermal imaging cameras that can be borrowed by our community groups, free of charge. You can view availability and book the cameras on the Low Carbon Hub website here. (https://lowcarbonhub1.typeform.com/to/xVTRvMGK)
