Using Communication Evidence to Train Clinicians: Offering E-cigarettes in a Smoking Reduction Trial

Healthcare is delivered to a substantial extent through communication, and effective, evidence-based communication can improve both quality of care and health outcomes. Communication training is more likely to influence practice when its content reflects the complexity and context-specific nature of real clinical interactions and is closely aligned with clinicians’ everyday work.

During this talk, Xinxin Yang (https://www.cebm.ox.ac.uk/about-us/team/xinxin-yang) will present the development of a communication resource grounded in empirical interactional evidence. She will also introduce how this communication evidence can be translated into usable training content, with the aim of strengthening the transfer of training into practice, supporting more effective clinical communication, and ultimately improving patient engagement and outcomes.
