Named in honour of the brilliant co-founder of the National Party of Scotland (a predecessor party of the Scottish National Party), and uncompromising essayist Oliver Brown, this prestigious accolade is presented annually to a cultural figure who, in the opinion of the judges, has done the most in the preceding year to advance the cause of Scotland’s self-respect. For decades, Alan Cumming has embodied that exact spirit—carrying the heart of his homeland onto Broadway stages, Hollywood screens, and global platforms, all while never forgetting the soil that raised him.
