Join the happenings under the awnings as four Peterborough musicians perform live music written for each shopfront.

A/Owning is a new public artwork by José García Oliva, as part of Words in Public Spaces.

Working with local shop owners across the city, many of them migrant and second-generation families, José has adapted each awning into stages for a city-wide cultural programme. The words on the awnings come from a poem written collectively by people in Peterborough.

On the night, four Peterborough musicians and educators will perform short pieces of live music under the awnings. The music is written for each shopfront and draws on its sounds, its owners and the places its food and people come from. A part of each piece will also be improvised in response to what is happening around: a door opening, a bus passing, voices at the till.

Together, all four acoustic pieces will form one journey through the city.

Words in Public Spaces is a new public art commission from Metal, part of Peterborough Cultural Alliance’s Place Partnership Programme.
