About This Event

A free guided walk exploring the Reading's hidden industrial history. The "Reading's Milling Heritage" walk is back. Taking place during Heritage Open Days 2026, this guided walk offers a unique opportunity to explore some of Reading’s lesser-known industrial heritage. Margaret Simons, Mills Archive Trustee and historian will guide attendees around various mill sites, narrating more about Reading’s milling heritage, associated structures and town history along the way. This guided walk will take place on Saturday 19th September, at 12:30pm. The event will last for around 1.5 - 2 hours, and pre-booking is essential as spaces are limited. The walk starts at Watlington House, a Grade II* listed building and home to The Mills Archive Trust, who have used their archive to develop the route. The Trust is an educational charity and an archive, home to over three million records on windmills, watermills and renewable energy! The Mills Archive Trust will also be hosting a free exhibition, and drop in screenprinting workshop at Watlington House, that you can visit before or after the walk.
