Coalhouse Creatures Art Workshop will take place on 29 October 2026 at Coalhouse Fort Park in East Tilbury. Artist Sarah Doyle leads the session, inviting participants to celebrate the wildlife of Coalhouse Fort. Tickets are listed at no cost.
Come and celebrate the wildlife of Coalhouse Fort with Artist Sarah Doyle.
A wide variety of wildlife can be found in and around the disused Coalhouse Fort, including birds, bats and owls. In this workshop, we’ll celebrate these wonderful creatures with a hands-on art workshop, suitable for children aged 4 to 8 years and their parents, grandparents and carers. This workshop will celebrate your child’s creativity and under the guidance of Sarah, they’ll get to make a piece of art celebrating some of the fantastic creatures found in and around Coalhouse Fort.
Sarah will be leading workshops all day, with different time slots on offer for people to join in and help celebrate Coalhouse creatures.
All children must be accompanied by an adult and everyone must have a ticket.
This workshop is part of the ‘Reanimating Coalhouse Fort’ project, funded by the Heritage Fund.
Accessibility
This workshop will take place inside the Fort in a room on the first floor.
There is no stair-free access to this workshop. Regrettably, due to the age of the Fort, there isn’t a lift installed. Funding is being sought as part of planned restoration of the Fort, which, if successful, will enable a lift to be installed.
Entrance to the Fort interior is through a small gate with a raised step.
While there are no toilets in the Fort, there are toilets in the cafe just outside the gate, and all activities will take place while those toilets are open (10:00 – 15:15).
There is an accessible toilet in the toilet block – full info on dimensions here: https://www.accessable.co.uk/thurrock-council/access-guides/coalhouse-fort-park (note this includes info about Fort opening times which no longer apply, and handrails which are no longer in place). There is no Changing Places toilet on site.
Please bring your own drinking water - there is no tap in the Fort.
