About This Event

Beethoven Now is an afternoon event at Canford School in Wimborne on 31 October 2026. The programme includes readings from Beethoven's letters by Samuel West, conversation with Dame Evelyn Glennie about deafness, and a talk by John Suchet. The session concludes with an Any Questions debate chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby.

Beethoven's life will be illustrated by readings from his letters by accomplished stage and screen actor, Samuel West, accompanied by excerpts from his string quartets; percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie will help us understand more about the musical and social implications of deafness; and Beethoven aficionado, John Suchet, talks about his Beethoven biography. The afternoon ends with an 'Any Questions' debate chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby. Hosted by Sarah Walker, the afternoon offers some unique insights into why Beethoven has such universal appeal and timeless significance.
