An opportunity to get insights into the best business and personal development books, e-books, audio books and podcasts to help you succeed!
“Reading is important. If you know how to read, then the whole world opens up to you.”
Barack Obamah
Last week we met a very successful Sheffield entrepreneur who's just sold his business and whilst chatting to him about his success, he told us about a book he read that really helped him grow his business. That book was 'Traction: Get A Grip On Your Business' (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Traction-Get-Grip-Your-Business/dp/1936661837) by Gino Wickman. He certainly wasn't the only one to buy it - it's sold over 2 million copies!
We meet lots of business leaders who have a 'go to' book, audio book or podcast that shapes what they do and how they do it, and we thought it would be great to 'tap in' to the wealth of knowledge and experience in the 3D Connect group to find out what works for them!
Whether you're a reader (or listener) or not, it's a great opportunity to:
Get insights from people in the 'book world' about how it all works business wise!
Be inspired and learn from other '3D Connectors' about what inspires them.
Hear about books and podcasts that could do the same for you.... and maybe even get a copy for yourself!
As well as sharing and learning people's favourite reads (and listens!), you'll get an insight into the world of books and publishing from none other than... book publisher and editor Phil Turner!
Yes, as well as unLTD Business magazine (https://unltdbusiness.com/) he has a successful publishing company, Meze Publishing (https://mezepublishing.co.uk/) who have recently achieved a major milestone by one of their publications, Autumn by Sam Nixon (https://mezepublishing.co.uk/product/autumn/)becoming a Sunday Times bestseller and reaching number one in The Booksellers Independent Bookshop chart! (And you just thought he did unLTD Business Magazine!)
You'll also hear about the bookshops and 'Bookish Collaborations' that are springing up all over Sheffield where you can have great coffee, a glass of wine even and meet likeminded people - we're hopeful of having some of those collaborators in the room with us to share their passion for books and how they're building businesses on books.
Speaking of passion and following your book dream, we have none other than someone who only a couple of weeks ago had the Arts Council come to visit! Newly appointedChair of the Arts Council, Dawn Airey (https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/creative-matters/news/dawn-airey-cbe-appointed-chair-arts-council-england) spent one of her first days in the role here in South Yorkshire... in Rotherham! She visited Grimm and Co (https://grimmandco.co.uk/) met CEO Deborah Bullivant to hear all about the impact she and the organisation are making locally through books! Both Deborah and Chair of the organisation Lisa Pogson will share with us their love of books, how books have helped them through their journeys and what their book recommendations are.
WE ALSO WANT YOU TO SHARE THE BOOKS, AUDIO BOOKS AND PODCASTS THAT HAVE INFLUENCED (AND DO INFLUENCE) YOU!
We're aiming to create a list of Recomended Reads (And Listens) that we will then share for all to 'tap into'!
As a 'starter for 10', when we first started in business some 30 plus years ago - Jill bought Andy a book, The E Myth by Michael Gerber (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Myth-Revisited-Small-Businesses-About/dp/0887307280). It was a significant book that influenced how we did things, and since then we've read lots of books, met lots of authors and even written 3 books of our own!
So, please come aloing ready to recommend and make suggestions - you could even bring a copy along and swap it with someone else - it can be 'fact' or fiction (and doesn't have to be business related!)
WHERE IS IT HAPPENING?
Of course, with this theme we just had to be at at The Library Cafe in Attercliffe (https://www.thelibraryvenue.co.uk/). Having just been involved in a brand new Sheffield publication would successful Sheffield entrepreneur and cafe owner, David Slater of Spaces (http://www.spacessheffield.co.uk/), have ever forgiven us if not? He's just one of the many Sheffield characters featured in the book, Steel City Survivors (https://dirtystopouts.com/products/steel-city-survivors?srsltid=AU7gw4VXojKCfiKZpLKFyz9oEDTnB57jsNxJxc8nZCdotBfwKphDIaR4) which is being launched on 29th October. We're sure there might just be one or two copies at the event!
