Yellow Arch Studios is one of the UK's top music and recording venues, this guided tour gives a glimpse of its music and industrial history
Yellow Arch Studios is one of the country's top music venues and recording studios. Since it opened in 1997, it has hosted recordings by artists such as Richard Hawley, Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, Pulp, Duane Eddy, Jarvis Cocker, James, Sister Sledge, Texas and Finley Quaye. It is probably best known as the studio where the Arctic Monkeys wrote and recorded their first album, and the area around it inspired their track 'When the Sun Goes Down'. The building started off life in the 1870s as a blacksmiths and wheelwright before becoming Clarence Works - a screw and bolt factory for the bridge and shipbuilding industries.
This guided tour by Andy Cook, one of the founders of Yellow Arch Studios, gives a glimpse into the building's industrial origins as well as its more recent music history. It also includes a chance to see the recording studio where the Arctic Monkey started their career and hear more about Andy's own fascinating life in the music industry.
This event is organised jointly by Yellow Arch Studios and Kelham Island Walks as part of the annual Heritage Open Days festival. Places are very limited and usually go quickly. If you book a ticket and are unable to attend, please cancel your place to give others a chance to visit.
