A seminar regarding pension planning ahead of April 2027 is set for the Leopold Hotel Sheffield on 24 September 2026 at 12:15. Admissions cost between £30.00 and £85.00 and speakers include John Bunker and Rebecca Bonner.
Our speakers will be John Bunker LL.B CTA TEP, who will be joined by Rebecca Bonner, Director and IFA with Trigpoint Financial Planning
Following the success of our inaugural STEP Yorkshire social in Sheffield last September, we are planning an expanded event in Sheffield for this year, to be held on the afternoon of Thursday 24th September at the Leopold Hotel, 2 Leopold Street, Leopold Square, Sheffield, S1 2GZ.
Professional Development Event – IHT on Pensions:
During the afternoon we will be holding a professional development event focussed on the theme of “IHT on Pensions: where now for planning and practice ahead of April 2027?”
Our speakers will be John Bunker LL.B CTA TEP, who has presented extensively on this issue and even gave evidence in parliament on the IHT reforms on behalf of the CIOT. He will be joined by Rebecca Bonner, Director and IFA with Trigpoint Financial Planning, who will offer commentary on the reforms and planning opportunities from the financial planning perspective.
This is clearly a hugely topical issue, and we hope the combination of perspectives from our speakers will make for a very insightful and useful session for all professionals guiding private clients through the impending changes.
Key topics to be covered:
o Making PRs of estates liable for IHT on pension pots – over which they have no control - has huge consequences for both wills/IHT planning and probate work!
o It’s a convoluted system, with greater clarity anticipated as new regulations and guidance are published. We will take stock of the latest and see what HMRC's Technical Note, updated on 29 May, means in practice.
o What do we need to do about the 6 months after death and the 15 months when PRs can direct PSAs to hold back 50% of their pension?
o What probate practice changes do firms need to consider so that the increased risks of the new regime can be managed?
o Estate planning: steps to help clients ahead of these major changes to pensions
