About This Event

Live Music and Workplace Wellbeing will occur on 8 October 2026 at the Sir Frederick Mappin Building in Sheffield. This event will feature presentations on the impact of social activities on workplace wellbeing, complemented by live music. Entry is free.

New research, two panels and live music on what a night out does for wellbeing at work. Free, at the University of Sheffield.

About this event

An afternoon of research and thought provoking conversation on the link between live events and wellbeing at work, hosted by the University of Sheffield and Tickets for Good.

Workplace wellbeing spending keeps rising. Live music is one of the interventions people actively want to take up, and the research base behind it is starting to catch up with the instinct. This afternoon is about what we now know, what we do not, and what it would take for a health system or an employer to act on it.

It is also a preview. The themes here anchor MUSIC + WELLBEING: In Conversation, the flagship conference in Sheffield in July 2027.

On the programme

1:30 | Registration opens

2:00 | University of Sheffield & Tickets for Good outline their shared mission

2:10 | New research from Dr Emma Risley on how healthcare staff engage with live music access schemes, and what blocks wider take-up across the NHS

An update on Sound Works SY, South Yorkshire's emerging music and health cluster, from Professor Renee Timmers (University of Sheffield)

A panel chaired by Professor Stephanie Pitts on how researchers and the live music industry can build evidence that funders will believe

A panel chaired by Dr Jenni MacRitchie on what gets lost when music's benefits are treated as effortless, and what that costs in practice

Closing remarks from Philip Slade, Tickets for Good

An industry mixer and live music showcase at The Hideaway, on the eve of No Bounds Festival

Anyone with an interest in supporting workplace wellbeing and considering the role of live event attendance. We hope to increase dialogue between NHS and healthcare staff, postgraduate students and academics in music, psychology, public health and arts management. Anyone working in or around Sheffield's live music sector. No prior knowledge of the research is assumed, and questions from the floor are welcome at both panels.
