About This Event

Joining Soma Sessions #16 on August 29th at Sheffield's Flying Horse Lawn, expect a vibrant showcase featuring performances by various artists supporting themes of becoming in tune with one's environment, curated for fostering capacity and resilience in our interconnected futures.

Join us as we build capacity and resilience for futures where our human bodies and our more-than-human landscapes are liberated

~ Please note: These sessions are open to People of Colour only ~

Peaks of Colour's Soma Sessions are monthly spaces that invite global majority communities to deepen their connection with themselves, each other and the land.

Set in the Peak District, these informal and intimate sessions will offer an introduction to embodied and nature-allied practices that can assist in our healing from gendered and racialised trauma.

A space of repetition as Black Feminist practice (Foluke Taylor), and rehearsal as an abolitionist priority (Ruth Wilson Gilmore), Soma Sessions will support us to build capacity and resilience for a future in which the boundaries between our human bodies and our more-than-human landscapes are decomposed.

Soma Sessions #16: Becoming Bird w Roo Dhissou

Inspired by birdsong, vibration and practices of deep listening, this gentle Soma Session invites participants into an embodied journey of voice, sound and rest. Through playful sonic exercises using bird instruments and vocal mimicry (humming, harmonising, bird-call explorations, live ambient instrumentation featuring the peacock inspired strings of the Taus, and clay bird whistles), we will explore sound as a collective, ancestral and healing practice. Rooted in deep listening, collective harmony and more-than-human worlds, the session will culminate in a lullaby-style sound bath, offering space for stillness, nervous system care and intentional rest.
