A social photo walk exploring gennels, green spaces, architecture, street life and the stories found along the edges of Nether Edge.
STOMP South Yorkshire returns with a special guided photo walk for Nether Edge Festival.
This relaxed 2.5-mile route (approximately 3 hours of gentle walking) explores the northern and eastern edges of Nether Edge, taking in a rich mix of history, architecture, green spaces and street life along the way.
Starting from The Stag car park on Psalter Lane, we'll venture through some of Sheffield's most fascinating and photogenic corners. Highlights include Sheffield's finest ginnel, the hidden Frog Walk, the remarkable General Cemetery, the modernist architecture of the Lansdowne Estate, Mount Pleasant Park, the multicultural bustle of Abbeydale Road, the secretive Primrose Walk and Broadfield Road via the historic Picture House before finishing at The Broadfield for a drink and an informal debrief.
The walk is organised by STOMP South Yorkshire, a growing community photo walk initiative created by local photographers and photography organisations including TYCE (Take Your Camera Everywhere), The Sheffield Darkroom, J&A Photography, Reyt Dark and Adam Galliford. STOMP exists to make photography open, social and accessible, bringing together professionals, hobbyists, complete beginners and everyone in between.
There is no workshop structure and no technical knowledge required. Participants are encouraged to walk, observe, take photographs and enjoy conversations along the way. Whether you're interested in architecture, documentary photography, street scenes, local history or simply discovering a different side of Sheffield, there will be plenty to see and photograph.
All cameras are welcome, including film, digital and phone cameras.
The walk will be led by experienced local photographers and urban explorers, joined by members of Sheffield's photographic community. Along the route, participants will have the opportunity to share ideas, swap stories and enjoy the company of fellow photographers while exploring one of Sheffield's most varied and characterful neighbourhoods.
The walk concludes at The Broadfield, where participants are invited to stay for a drink, share photographs and continue conversations sparked during the morning.
Suitable for all experience levels. Comfortable footwear recommended.
