About This Event

The King, The Crown and the Car Park is a forthcoming community event scheduled for 2 October 2026 at Carpenter Room Sheffield Central Library. History experts will discuss Richard III, born on that date and found in a Leicestershire carpark in 2012, with admission free.

Dive into the fascinating history of King Richard III born on this day 574 years ago and found in a Leicestershire carpark in 2012.

Richard III is well known as the king we love to hate. Despite reigning for only two years he still causes controversy today either as the much-maligned Lord of the North or the evil hunchback who murdered his nephews. In 2012 he gained a new title: the King in the Car Park when his remains were located in Leicester. This talk explains how he got there, how his remains were lost and the efforts to find him again.

Jenny Moran was the manager of the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland from 2008-2022, the archive holding material relevant to the discovery. She now works in the Information Governance Team at Sheffield City Council.
