Origami - the art of paper folding

Date & Time: February 13, 2027 at 10:30 AM (GMT)

Venue: Shrewsbury Library

Origami is an ancient Japanese art that means “folding paper”. It’s more than just making shapes – it’s about transformation, creativity, and seeing things from a new perspective. In this workshop, you’ll learn some of the main origami bases with step-by-step support.

We’ll create traditional Japanese origami like the tulip, kusudama flower, butterfly, dove, and various containers, all using colorful origami paper. Folding paper helps you relax, be mindful, and realize that anything is possible!

What you’ll make and take home

You’ll have the opportunity to create a variety of origami pieces to take home, from delicate flowers and butterflies to traditional decorative forms and practical little containers. You’ll explore the possibilities of folding through a beautiful selection of colourful, quality origami papers, discovering how different colours and patterns can bring each creation to life.

No previous experience is needed – just curiosity and a willingness to experiment! You’ll be guided through each step, with support and encouragement throughout the workshop.
