About This Event

The Looking Closer: Photography Exhibition will be held at the Southampton Central Library in Southampton from 8 July 2026. The event is a photography exhibition showcasing work created by students from Compass School.

Photography exhibition by Compass School students, made in sessions with In Focus

This exhibition showcases work created by students from Compass School.

Using the library's art and photography collection as a starting point, students explored the work of established artists and photographers before developing their own creative responses.

Through research, inspiration and experimentation, students investigated a range of photographic genres, including abstract photography, nature photography and street photography. The resulting images demonstrate curiosity, observation and a willingness to explore new ways of seeing the world.

The exhibition celebrates the creative journey from discovering ideas on the page to expressing them through the camera lens.

Artists and publications that inspired this project include, Jeff Wall, Wolfgang Tillmans, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Trent Parke and a range of books exploring contemporary art, abstract art and street photography.
