Play On Words will perform A Nightjar Journey on 24 October 2026 at Hythe Library. The performance addresses themes of migration and identity, exploring the experiences of fitting in and having dual homes.
A story about migration, about our differences and similarities, learning how to fit in, and holding two homes in one heart.
What does home mean when your heart belongs to more than one place?
The Nightjar Journey is a warm and imaginative family performance exploring migration, belonging and the many ways we carry home with us.
Told through music, song, puppetry and shadow play, the story follows a young girl as she leaves behind the place she knows and begins a new life somewhere unfamiliar. Guided by the mysterious Nightjar — a bird that journeys thousands of miles between Africa and Europe each year — she begins to discover that belonging is not always about choosing one home over another. Sometimes we can carry many places, memories and people within us.
Created as a portable “suitcase story”, The Nightjar Journey brings together visual storytelling, performance and music to create an intimate theatrical experience for children and adults alike.
Suitable for ages 5+ and family audiences.
