A playful illustration and writing workshop for ages 8–12

A playful illustration and writing workshop for ages 8–12, exploring how looking, drawing, noticing and words can work together to spark ideas and creativity.

Through quick, playful exercises, children will experiment with different ways of generating ideas without worrying about getting things ‘right’, before using words and images to begin creating something of their own.

Jo Cockwell is a writer and illustrator based in the New Forest who loves words, pictures and the magic that can happen when you put the two together. She is passionate about helping children feel confident enough to read widely, draw freely and make up whatever they feel like on the day. To her mind, there’s no such thing as a bad drawing or a wrong way to read, because ideas can come from anywhere.

The workshop has a suggested ticket price of £8 but you can choose to support others' involvement by paying more, or set your own ticket price if cost is a barrier. Your contribution goes to non-profit literary organisation, ArtfulScribe C.I.C. and helps to fund the delivery of Play on Words in the New Forest.

This workshop takes place in the main space at Hythe Library - just ask a member of staff if you can't find us!
