Discover the amazing lives of swifts, why they’re in decline, and how we can protect Old Whiteley’s only known colony near Meadowside.

Save Our SwiftsDiscover the amazing lives of swifts and how we can help protect them!

Swifts are extraordinary birds, spending almost their entire lives on the wing. They are among the fastest-flying birds in the world, can fly continuously for months, and even sleep while flying! For the first two years of their lives, young swifts remain almost entirely airborne.

Despite their remarkable abilities, swift numbers are in serious decline, largely due to the loss of suitable nesting sites in buildings. These incredible birds spend around four months of the year in England before migrating to Africa for the rest of the year.

Here in Old Whiteley, we have just one known swift colony, near Meadowside, making it especially important that we do what we can to protect these wonderful birds and help their numbers recover.

Join us for an interesting and inspiring talk by Tim Norris, Leader of Hampshire Swift Club, who has been responsible for installing nearly 6,000 swift nest boxes across Hampshire.

Come along to discover more about the fascinating lives of swifts, why they need our help, and how you could make a difference by having a swift nest box fitted to your own home.

Let’s work together to save our swifts and give them a future across Whiteley!
