The Creative Open Day: Grey Woven Portrait will occur at Focal Point Gallery in Southend On Sea on 24 October 2026. Led by Dr Amit Sharma, this workshop focuses on reflection and resilience. Attendance is free.
Join us for the next Creative Open Day with Dr Amit Sharma, a pilot project focusing on reflection and resilience.
This unique workshop, led by Dr Amit Sharma, invites participants to explore memories, emotions and resilience through creative self-expression.
Take a moment. Pause. Create without judgement.
You can join for 20 minutes, or you are welcome to be with us the full day!
The workshop begins with participants creating a greyscale self-portrait from a selfie. They will then weave written reflections into their artwork, representing difficult moments, emotional responses and pathways to resilience.
The workshop unfolds in three parts: creating, weaving and discussing. Throughout, the focus is on experimentation; changing, combining and developing what you have created, and discovering where the process takes you.
Participants are encouraged to externalise experiences through making, reconstruct personal narratives, and recognise the strengths and resilience that exist within their own life stories.
This is a slow, thoughtful workshop, developed in response to the themes and ideas explored within our exhibition, Compulsory Continuous Connectedness. It offers an opportunity to pause, reflect and spend time with your own thoughts and experiences through the process of making.
We want the workshop to be a comfortable and respectful space where everyone can participate in whatever way feels right for them. There is no right or wrong way to make art here.
Come with curiosity, take a moment, and see where the process takes you.
