Ginnie Betts is currently competing in the World SUP Championships in Sabaudia, Italy. She lives in Ludgvan.
Her story title is: Paddling Through the Unknown
Ginnie will share how the requirements of ocean paddling–fitness, resilience and responding to the ever-changing patterns of the ocean, helped her through a (stage 1) breast cancer diagnosis she never saw coming and a mastectomy. Plus, re-qualifying for Team GB in July 2026 while still undergoing immunology treatment.
Ginnie will also share how she embraces the beauty of her scar post mastectomy in a society obsessed with women’s aesthetic conformity.
A bit about Ginnie
Ginnie is a multiple British National SUP Champion and one of the UK’s leading female paddle boarders. In her 40's she discovered her passion for the sport & now competes in the 50+ category.
She’s a single mum to three teenage sons of Nigerian/Cornish heritage and her life is a tripod of motherhood, sport and work in planning and infastructure.

Laurie will explore how this moment became such a catalyst for her journey back to herself & back to a deeper relationship with the natural world.

Sophie Osborne is a Youth Worker, Play Energy Coach, Artist and Therapeutic Play Facilitator. She lives in St Ives.
Her story title is: The Power of Play
Sophie will share how two life threatening illnesses instilled in her a devotion to living life through a lens of Play. And how she embodies Play as a way of being, to be fully self-expressed and to create art, purpose, spaces, and ultimately life, as Play.
Sophie will share stories from her various Play installations. Including Pink Paint Vintage, a vintage shop in St Ives that was a celebration of the 60s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, through playful design, vintage fabrics and decades of music. As well as her ongoing art practice, which honours process as the medium, inner rebellion, and Play as the outcome.
