IWN Ramblers: Alfred Wallis Walk, St IvesSunday 8 November 2026
Join IWN Ramblers for a special walk through St Ives with Matilda, exploring the life and story of local fisherman and artist Alfred Wallis.
Some of you may remember Matilda leading an Alfred Wallis walk for IWN before. Since then, her research has become the award-winning book Alfred Wallis: Child Pauper to Artistic Luminary, which won the top award at the 2026 Holyer an Gof Cornish Book Awards.
On this walk, Matilda will take us through some of the places connected with Wallis's life and share the story beyond the paintings, from his impoverished childhood and years at sea to his family life in St Ives, the town in which he began painting, and his relationships with the artists who later became interested in his work.
It's a chance to explore St Ives differently, discovering the story of a man whose life was rooted in the town long before he became known as an artist.
