A beautiful 1.25 acre coastal garden in an AONB and Tremenheere Sculpture garden tour and dusk experience in James Turrelll's skyspace
Enjoy a beautiful coastal garden of over an acre at Perranuthnoe, overlooking Mounts Bay, with high hedges to afford some protection against the battering salt winds. Virtually frost free, many different varieties of plants survive and flourish and echiums are considered weeds and a menace!
A magnificent new greenhouse, complete with integrated rainwater collection system is used for propagation and growing some vegetables and leads on to a formal potager garden where vegetables and flowers happily co exist. Wander in the orchard too, amongst some of the older apple trees, pop into the little rose garden or just enjoy the general ambience and that view of majestic St Michael's Mount.
Enjoy tea and cake before moving on to the second venue - Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens near Gulval, Penzance TR13 9PY
Here members can immerse themselves in the large scale exotic and sub-tropical planting that provides the backdrop to contemplative art by internationally renowned artists.
There is also the opportunity to experience in small escorted groups the Aqua Oscura. This is an old underground water tank of the 1890's where light enters through a pinholeand is then redirected by a mirror. After the brain readjusts the image of the tree canopy above is revealed. Quite fascinating!
The day will culminate in experiencing James Turrell's elliptical Skyspace in the centre of the gardens, which is designed to capture the extraordinary array of hues at dusk and lasts for approximately 45minutes. Torches will be required to exit the gardens as this event will end after dark.
The second venue is not suitable for those with limited mobility. No dogs.
