The documentary Before the Last Octopus will be screened at The Red Lion Inn in Newlyn on 2 November 2026. Director Robbie Newby will introduce the film, which follows conservationists protecting octopuses in the Mediterranean.
Join us to uncover one of the quieter crises facing the Mediterranean, and work to save the delicate eco-system above & below the surface
In the Mediterranean, the most overfished sea in the world, a group of international conservationists race to protect octopuses from illegal fishing, revealing a hidden world at sea and the power of collective action.
In Greece, the passionate team works alongside local fishermen, scientists, and authorities; hauling thousands of illegal traps from the sea and making what may be the last stand for octopuses in the region. With every life saved, a fragile hope remains.
In August, Penzance hosted the UK Premiere of documentary film 'Before the Last Octopus', which tells their story. By popular demand here is another chance to see the film and hear from its Director Robbie Newby.
