About This Event

The event brings together visitors for a guided exploration of Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve, with opportunities for nature photography. The reserve is known for its flora and fauna, providing a setting for outdoor observation.

Immerse yourself in nature and explore opportunities to capture the beauty of the flora and the fauna that make Flanders Moss.

Explore Flanders Moss with Roger Stewart and Michael Cook, learning how to slow down and engage with the environment and improve your ability to spot opportunities for distinctive images: particularly small creatures and flowers.

During the walk, you will practise your observation skills with a view to improving your ability to ‘see’ image opportunities. Along the way Roger will cover the origin, history and current state of the Flanders Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the creatures that call it home.

While Flanders Moss offers some great landscape imagery, our focus will be on the skills, techniques and (ethical) fieldcraft required to photograph small things. You will experience the benefit of moving slowly and deliberately through a space, looking for cues, and seeking out inspiring and creative compositions.

Beginners are welcome. Any camera will work, including camera phones. Roger and Michael will provide tailored advice to suit the equipment and the photographer.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Meeting point, Facilities and Access

Please meet in the car park for a 10:00 start. Do come prepared and dressed for the weather and note there are no toilet or snack facilities on site. You will be accessing the moss on unmettled paths and duckboards, please let us know when booking if you have particular access requirements.

Finding Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve

Located in a truly dramatic setting, Flanders Moss sits in the valley of the Rivers Forth and Teith, nestled between the Trossachs National Park to the West, Stirling to the East, and in the shadow of the Gargunnock and Menteith Hills. Due to its remote location you will need to arrive by personal transport as there is limited and distant public transport options.

Car parking is free and please note there are no toilet or snack facilities on site. There is more about access here.
