We look forward to welcoming Maggie Wood to share insights into the life of inmates at Shipston Union Workhouse.

In c.1887, Mabel Hyatt, a young woman from Great Wolford, was admitted to the Shipston Union Workhouse. Apart from several absences, she remained an inmate for the next 20 years.

Using a variety of sources, including the wealth of material at Warwickshire County Record Office, it’s been possible to discover more about Mabel, why she remained an inmate for so long, and to build narratives for others who shared her life behind the workhouse walls.

£5 tickets available in advance from Richard Harveys and The Flower House, Shipston-on-Stour. Subject to availability, tickets will also be available on the door.
