Learn to design and make your own jewellery with the ancient technique of sand casting
I will guide you step by step through the process of designing, carving and casting a piece of jewellery. You are welcome to bring ideas and references or to just see where the materials and process take you. With my skills as a jewellery designer I will support you to create a personal design that reflects your style and develops your technical ability. No previous experience is necessary and all levels are welcome but please note this is for people 18+ only.
This is a great opportunity to create a unique piece for yourself or as a gift for someone special!
I only have 8 spaces available per workshop so book your spot now! I am also available to give private workshops at your home for a minimum of 6 people, as well as 1:1 classes, please email me directly for enquiries lhartshorn.design@outlook.com
The technical details…
Sand casting allows you to cast from impressions of existing objects for example jewellery and natural forms. Things that are hard and textured such as sea shells work well, you are welcome to bring along objects to experiment with. As we will be cating in the workshop you can bring old/broken silver or gold jewellery to melt down and make your piece(s) from.
If you would like to make a ring for someone else, please find out their ring size in UK measurements or consider an adjustable design.
To make the workshop as affordable as possible I charge for materials seprately. As mentioned you can bring your own precious metals to be melted down and or you can buy recycled sterling silver in the workshop to cast your piece from. This will be charged at cost price currently £2.03 per gram, prices fluctuate daily. A medium sized ring is around 16g. If you can email me in advance with an estimate of how much metal you will think you will need that would be very helpful, I will bring extra and we can also adjust designs to fit your budget/materials.
I can also arrange for professional vacuum casting resulting in a high standard piece of cast jewellery* in brass, bronze, recycled silver, or gold, hand polished by myself. Materials, casting, finishing and delivery fees will be calculated in the workshop. This proccess takes upto 4 weeks.
*Please be aware that the casters cannot guarantee casts (due to any technical difficulties) - in the unlikely case that your piece does not cast properly you will be invited back to another workshop free of charge.
There is an option to add a donation to Delia Arts when buying your ticket. 100% of your donation will go to supporting their artist's shelter in Rafah, to find out more or donate directly click this text.
DISCLAIMER: This workshop can only happen when a minimum amount of tickets have sold. In the event that it is postponed/cancelled you will be notified and fully refunded.
