Security teams don’t wait for an incident to discover whether their decision-making works. They run tabletop exercises. So what happens if we apply the same thinking to one of the other areas where we routinely make high-stakes decisions with incomplete information - our careers?

For Cyber Circle Swindon 4th event, we’re turning the room into an interactive Career Pivot Tabletop.

This isn’t a careers panel. You won’t spend the evening listening to people tell you how they built the perfect career. Instead, you’ll choose a realistic career scenario and work through it with a small group.

The scenarios include:

• Redundancy is on the horizon - what do you do before anything is confirmed?

• A difficult manager is affecting your work - stay, escalate or leave?

• Your career has plateaued -what actually needs to change?

• Another organisation makes you an offer - how do you decide?

• You’ve been searching for months without an offer - what do you change?

• You’re trying to break into cyber, but even “entry-level” jobs want experience.

You don’t need to disclose your own employment or career situation. Choose the scenario you want to explore.

You don't require prior experience of cybersecurity or incident management.

The tabletop

CCS founder, Sidra Mobeen, will facilitate the exercise using a decision-making framework adapted from incident response.

Sidra is a global cyber delivery and IAM transformation leader with 15 years of experience, TechWomen100 award winner and EMCC practitioner coach & mentor.

September marks our fourth event since launching in April and the beginning of a more participatory quarterly format alongside our regular community sessions.
