The Gardening Course: Pruning aims to simplify pruning techniques for various plants, including roses and shrubs. This workshop will take place on 6 December 2026 at 10:30 at the Heritage and Rural Skills Centre in Swindon and is free to attend.
This course is designed to simplify the process of pruning, making it accessible and straightforward for all participants. Whether your interest lies in roses, clematis, or cherished shrubs, we will guide you through the essential techniques needed to care for your plants effectively.
You will learn not only when to prune—understanding the best times of year for various plants—but also which tools to use to achieve the best results. The course will also address common pests and diseases that can affect your plants, alongside a brief exploration of the scientific principles that underpin why certain pruning methods are recommended.
By the end of this session, you will feel confident in your ability to approach pruning with knowledge and skill, ensuring the ongoing health and beauty of your garden.
Your tutors are Lizzie and Jo. Lizzie, lives and breathes plants and nature. Lizzie has a BSc in Plant Science from the University of Nottingham, followed by 5+ years training in horticulture and gardening on a large traditional countryside estate. She now runs her own gardening maintenance business. Jo's love of gardening came from her father's vegetable growing. Her love and enthusiasm for gardening began when she gained her RHS qualification's and had her first garden. Jo also has a FdSc in Garden design.
The course takes place on 6th of December. There will be a break for lunch and space to eat a packed lunch, alternatively there is an on-site café. Tea and coffee provided.
