A mini-bus full of gay activists in the U.K. set out to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers.

In the early 1980s, a group of lesbian and gay activists band together to raise money for the families of those affected by the British miners’ strike. Punctuated by the iconic sound of the time, Pride offers an evocative portrait of two worlds against an establishment hell-bent on crushing individuality amongst the working class, and what solidarity can look like when we look beyond difference.

This screening is part of the BFI FAN UK-wide season, Rip It Up, celebrating British youth culture on screen and its ever-groundbreaking impact in shaping politics, music, film and TV. We will also be hosting a zine workshop beforehand, showcasing the power of print media to capture protest art and punk sensibilities.
