As part of the Architecture Kerry 2026 programme of Building Tours, join us for a guided visit to a recently completed Swedish timber frame home in Ballymacelligott, Tralee.

Manufactured in Sweden and assembled on site in just three days, this innovative self-build project showcases an alternative approach to house construction that combines speed, quality, sustainability and affordability. Built by Scandinavian Homes Ltd based in Galway, the three-bedroom bungalow incorporates highly insulated foundations, walls, roof and windows, together with heat recovery ventilation and minimal cold bridging to deliver exceptional energy performance.

The home demonstrates how modern off-site construction methods can achieve super-passive standards without the need for a heat pump, instead utilising electric underfloor heating. A 5.1kW solar PV system, comprising 14 solar panels, will generate an estimated 5,413kWh of electricity annually.

During the tour, visitors will hear first-hand about the self-build journey, the benefits of Scandinavian timber frame construction, and the energy-efficient technologies incorporated throughout the home. The project is also due to feature on RTÉ's Build Your Home next year.
