The Skills Bootcamp in Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance will equip adult learners, aged 19 and over, to develop the technical expertise required to maintain Electric Vehicles (EVs) safely and effectively.

Introductory Session:

Course starts on 4th November 2026 and runs until 20th January 2027

Delivered at the Truro Campus, this Level 3 programme has been designed to upskill existing Automotive Technicians, Mechanics and Vehicle Service Professionals, or those with vehicle fleets transitioning to electric or hybrid models, to upskill and transition smoothly into the era of electric mobility.

Course Outline:

The Skills Bootcamp in Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance is a ten-week programme designed to upskill individuals with existing professional or educational expertise within the Automotive sector, or those responsible for vehicle fleets within organisations transitioning to electric and hybrid technology, with the skills needed to service and maintain these vehicles.

Learners will explore EV technology, including high-voltage systems and charging infrastructure, alongside the safety protocols required when handling and repairing EV components.

The Skills Bootcamp is underpinned by the IMI Level 3 Award in Electric/ Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement that learners will complete at the conclusion of the course that will enable them to take on additional responsibilities to safely diagnose, repair and maintain Electric and Hybrid vehicles in line with industry regulations.

The course combines classroom-based theory with practical workshop sessions in specialist automotive facilities at Truro Campus.

By attending the Skills Bootcamp in Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance, learners will:

Develop an understanding of battery systems and Charging Infrastructure

Understand Battery Health and Maintenance

Establish options and best practices for Eco-Driving Techniques, including Seasonal and Long-Distance Driving

Understand how to apply Digital Tools and Monitoring Systems

Gain practical skills in the maintenance and servicing of EV components to support safety and emergency preparedness

Understand high-voltage safety procedures and compliance with industry regulations.

Explore diagnostics and fault-finding techniques specific to electric vehicles

Learn how to integrate EV maintenance practices into existing garage or fleet operations.

Enhance technical expertise to meet employer and customer demand in the growing EV sector, including cost management and incentives

Build confidence in using specialist equipment and following best practice for safe and efficient EV maintenance and servicing.

Learners will also benefit from access to guest speakers and industry experts who will provide insights into EV Technology Developments, customer and business expectations and the rapidly growing career opportunities in EV technology.

Cost –

Thanks to funding from the Department for Education, there is no charge for individuals looking to re-train or upskill. SME employers will only need to pay 10% of the course fee if they enrol a member of staff (£233.68), whilst large organisations will be asked to contribute 30% (£701.04).
