About This Event

This forthcoming autumn event invites visitors to Outwood Memorial Hall in Wakefield to participate in washing, chopping, and pressing surplus local apples into juice and cider. Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, the experience allows guests to engage directly with the traditional process of creating delicious beverages from the community's harvest. Attendees can enjoy a warm, hands-on culinary activity where they help transform fresh fruit into rich drinks within the heart of the town. Tickets for this interactive session are priced at £5.00.

Join us this autumn to wash, chop and press the Wakefield's surplus apples to help us make delicious juice and cider.

Funded by The National Lottery, as part of their Community Fund, our goal is to collect surplus fruit from the district's fruit trees and bushes and to utilise it to make juice, cider and other produce.

In 2024 we collected around 20 crates of apples and made around 120 litres of apple juice and cider.

Our intention is to increase production this year and the event will be a fun, informative and sociable day where you will learn how to make apple juice and craft cider, using the traditional rack-and-cloth method.

Feel free to bring along your surplus apples - there is a charge for the event to discourage people booking and then not turning up but participants and those donating apples will be given a share of the cider produced when it’s ready in the spring.

Wear warm comfortable clothing & footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Early booking recommended but:

1. Please only book if you are definitely coming so not to deny others a place!!

2. Accompanied children are welcome but please don't book a ticket for them

3. If you are unable to stay for the full session let us know if you would like to attend but do not book a ticket as we generally have 40 + crates of apples to juice and need to know we have enough attendees for the full session available to complete the juicing.
